My wife and I chose to travel and visit her family in her home country of Germany. Once arrived and settled in, we talked about seeing other parts of Europe, while on vacation. We decided on a location and, along with her family, decided to venture out to Northern Italy for a week.
Along the way, we drove through the Alps of Austria, which by far was the most beautiful and scenic drives I had ever witnessed in my life. We made our way to Italy, and stayed for a week in a small peninsula town called Bibione. The water was perfect and the weather was quite comfortable as well. Although, I am from Phoenix, so getting away from the heat, even with a little humidity, was enjoyable and a relief. We ate pizza. A lot of it. Almost every day, it was a choice of pizza at one point in the day, followed by some delicious Gelato, which never disappointed. With the beach being about a five minute walk from our camp, we didn't miss any opportunity to go there as much as possible. I soaked up as much sun as I could and swam everyday. We had planned to take a drive to Venice at one point during the vacation, as it was only a little over an hour or so to drive. Well, about four days into our trip, we made the decision. It was time to head to the city on water!
It rained for a brief moment that morning, but the weather quickly turned around in the afternoon, so we made our journey towards Venice. We took the main road to get to the city, but it was packed. It was the middle of summer which meant, tour buses and cars were everywhere. So, we had to do it the old school way by parking across the water and taking a water taxi to the city. Because of the rain earlier in the day, we didn't have a ton of time and were only able to stay about four hours or so. The journey just to get to Piazza San Marco took about 45 minutes by foot. Along the way thought, it was so nice to take in what I was seeing. The architecture, and beauty of this fascinating city. The extensive history, Waiting for my wife to come out of the McDonald's bathroom which seemed like the longest bathroom line ever almost extending outside of the front entrance.( We didn't eat there, trust me.)
But, it was all worth it. To see something so unique and different from Arizona, was breathtaking. We finally made it to Piazza San Marcos and my wife, her mother and sisters, wanted to find a coffee shop to sit and relax. I was the photographer of the group, which meant I had the pleasure of driving them crazy, because I wanted to snap everything I could and, do it in a 3-4 hour period. We agreed to meet up in about 30 minutes so, as fast as I possibly could, I ran around the plaza taking photos. I finished my marathon photography moment, met back up with the girls, and we made our way back to the water taxi, just in time to head back to our campground in Bibione. The experience was awesome. Every bit of it. I look forward to one day going back with my wife, and hopefully, we'll stay a little longer.
